The UCI Road World Championships for Elite Cyclists is the annual road race for professional cyclists. The winner of this competition receives the coveted rainbow jersey, which he or she can wear for one year in cycling competitions. This year, the World Road Cycling Championships were held as part of the UCI World Cycling Championships on 06 August 2023 on a 271 kilometre route from Edinburgh to Glasgow including a twisty circuit in Glasgow.
There were 194 riders from 58 countries at the start. In the end, Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands) won after 6:07:27 hours (but the race was interrupted for a good hour due to a protest) ahead of Wout van Aert (Belgium) and Tadej Pogačar (Slovakia). A total of 51 riders crossed the finish line.
