Historical pictures of the Berlin TV Tower: The Berlin TV Tower, built between 1965 and 1969, is the tallest structure in Germany at 368 metres and a prominent symbol of the city. Originally built as a symbol of the strength of the socialist state, it served as a television tower and was opened on 3 October 1969. The tower has a spherical viewing platform at a height of 203 metres, which offers a 360-degree view of Berlin. A special feature is the Telecafé, which revolves around its own axis within an hour, offering guests a changing view.
Our historical GDR photos of the Berlin TV tower were taken shortly after its construction and show the unique structure in the GDR architecture around Berlin’s Alexanderplatz.
