It was the 26th matchday of the Regionalliga West season 2021/2022. The match in front of 10,000 spectators (800 visiting fans) was abandoned at 1-1 in the 76th minute of play after a supposed RWE fan threw a firecracker inside the stadium near the Preußen Münster substitutes. The goal scorers up to that point. For Rot-Weiss Essen Thomas Eisfeld in the 45th minute and for Preußen Münster Gerrit Wegkamp in the 73rd minute.
