Gerrit Wegkamp later secured victory for Münster. Essen got off to a poor start, conceding an early goal, but found their way back into the game. Despite chances for both teams, the score remained 1:1 at half-time. Münster increased the pressure in the second half, but it was Gerrit Wegkamp who scored to make it 2-1.
